The original Kindle has changed the way people read, but the newest generation of Kindle device is aimed to topple down iPad domination in tablet competition at the market.

Kindle Fire is promoted as the opposition of previous Kindle products that tended to be one dimensional. With sleeker appearance and multi function features that also present in other tablets, Kindle Fire is a combination of portable library, browsing device, reading device and entertainment gadget. Online stores such as Amazon and Best Buy even have ranked Kindle Fire as one of their hottest items in 2013.

According to product review website 10 Ten Reviews, Kindle Fire has gained such popularity in short time; it has double functions as a reading device and common tablet, but “without the price tag of Apple products.” For example, Kindle Fire with 8.9 inch screen and 32 GB capacity only costs $299.99, while the smallest one with 7 inch screen and 8 GB capacity costs $159.

Users can use Kindle Fire for browsing the internet, opening and replying emails, engaging in social media, watching movies, listening to music, playing games, and reading. Comes in both 7 and 8.9 inch screen, Kindle Fire is light enough to carry by one hand, and only as big as a regular book. It also comes with Amazon Cloud Storage and Amazon Silk, to make sure users can browse popular websites quickly despite of abundant contents in it. There are options of 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB storage capacity, as opposed to previous Kindle products that only have 4 to 8 GB.

Unfortunately, these extra features have cost Kindle Fire its predecessor famous battery life. While the original Kindle has one to two day battery life, Kindle Fire only has 7.5 to 8 hours. Currently, the Kindle Fire is not marketed as a professional gadget for sophisticated tasks, but as a tablet for casual users, particularly the youths.

Kindle Fire also targets kid’s market; it is proven by its newest feature, Kindle Free Time. By subscribing to Kindle Free Time, parents can be sure that the contents, apps, music, games and movies appear in their children’s tablets are all appropriate and well selected.

In conclusion, Kindle Fire may not be a perfect gadget for professionals, but its combined functions and cheap price are proven effective enough to topple down Apple domination in tablet market, especially among casual users and youths.
